Very many beautiful people

December 17, 2008 By Chris Corrigan Uncategorized 3 Comments

It is snowing heavily here in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and most people are doing what people here do when it snows like this – staring at it, making comments to each other and abandoning their plans for getting home on time.   Heavy snow here can bring out irritation and anger, but today I have been struck by how beautiful people look.   There is a lot of smiling and laughing and radiance today.   Dunno why it seems that way, but I like it.   I’m falling deeply in like with everyone I meet this afternoon!

Ever had a day like that?

Chris, we were just thinking the same thing! We arrived in Port Moody from NB a few days ago (hi!), bringing our familiar winter weather with us. Walking around North Van this afternoon we met a great number of people simply standing in the street or exiting stores to drink in the snow-covered scenes. All had smiles on their faces and many had a playful energy. Beautiful.

    Happy holidays!

    Hi Chris,

This snowfall is different from others before. Everyone I’ve seen or talked to seems peacefully reconciled, even relaxed. As the song goes, all is calm, all is bright. A Merry Christmas indeed!

i love your observation as it has been mine over the last few days since the snow hit seattle and made all our steep hills into sledding courses and a land where cars no longer rule. people rule, children play, people smile. since i have been walking everywhere – a mile or two to the store (my favorite organic store) and back – i’ve been witnessing the joy that is present while people walk their dogs, stop and enjoy kids playing in the snow (they know how to shift so easily) and enjoy a spaciousness that we don’t often get. i sense a deeper throb and pulse of community, awakening. as if we are learning what might be asked of us in moments of crisis…that we can find our joy and we will work together. the frustration i have experienced lately with the snow fall is when people are in cars trying to drive somewhere and getting stuck. another beautiful observation is how people are greeting each other on the street as we pass, as if we are privy to some big secret and we are all connected somehow. hello, hello, beautiful day, hi, smile, smile back. why doesn’t this happen when it rains?
