“We don’t have a dream…we have woken up”

History is made in little leaps and bounds.  A treaty has been signed on the west coast of Vancouver Island, and this month it came into effect. Here is the story.

I was born in B.C. and now reside in the UK. During my time in Canada (up to 1983) there were rumblings about the First Nations people wanting what was rightfully theirs and I am pleased to have seen this video and to know that a treaty is in place in Vancouver Island.

I hope this whole story/treaty arrangement will spread across Canada so First Nations people can regain their livelihoods, their lands/homes, their dignity. It is a situation I am not well-versed in but I have always had questions about how the native people were forced or coerced into situations that were detremental to them. Perhaps now this will be redressed and the awakening of the First Nations people will continue for many generations.

I enjoyed the video…very well presented and although I do not understand the language I find the music hits something very deep inside me…a beauty all its own.
