A video that captures presence

July 29, 2007 By Chris Corrigan Practice 2 Comments

Presence is a very difficult thing to talk about and to explain.   I think most of us know it when we see it, and perhaps recognize it when we feel it as well.

This video of 14 year old Jennifer Lin playing piano at a TED conference embodies presence.   Why do you think she is so able to project her confidence on stage?

I image Presence as a direct expression of unfolding wholeness. The vitality/essence of any entity or object is revealed as presence.

I sense Presence as an energetic field aligning directness of experience (absorption) with authenticity of expression (resonance/reflection). Presence expands the space of this current’s moment.

What is the relationship of presence and mastery?

Bruce Lee says that mastery is where there is no longer any doubt. Being with someone who is operating without doubt for me is to be in a powerful presence. Doubt is conditioned thinking. No doubt is clarity. Clarity brings that vitality you are talking about. The process of mastering something is paring away the bits and pieces that get in the way of the vitality and essence. It invites me into an expanding now.
