Now we will count to twelve
\nAnd we will all keep still.<\/p>\n
For once on the face of the earth,
\nlet’s not speak in any language;
\nlet’s stop for one second,
\nand not move our arms so much.
\nIt would be a delicious moment
\nwithout hurry, without locomotives;
\nall of us would be together
\nin a sudden uneasiness.<\/p>\n
The fishermen in the cold sea
\nwould do no harm to the whales
\nand the peasant gathering salt
\nwould look at his torn hands.
\nThose who prepare green wars,
\nwars of gas, wars of fire,
\nvictories without survivors,
\nwould put on clean clothing
\nand would walk alongside their brothers
\nin the shade, without doing a thing.<\/p>\n
What I want shouldn’t be confused
\nwith final inactivity;
\nlife alone is what matters,
\nI want nothing to do with death.
\nIf we weren’t unanimous
\nabout keeping our lives so much in motion,
\nif we could do nothing for once,
\nperhaps a great silence would
\ninterrupt this sadness,
\nthis never understanding ourselves
\nand threatening ourselves with death,
\nperhaps the earth is teaching us
\nwhen everything seems to be dead
\nand then everything is alive.
