{"id":6915,"date":"2019-12-05T23:39:19","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T07:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/?p=6915"},"modified":"2019-12-05T23:39:27","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T07:39:27","slug":"every-year-remembering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/every-year-remembering\/","title":{"rendered":"Every year, remembering when our dreams turned to icicles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wPhrgStFtHM?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been thirty years since 14 women were killed at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal, and every year I mark their passing here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve always associated this song with that event, and I&#8217;ve even asked Lynn Miles about it, and she has said to me, despite her introduction in the above video, &#8220;yeah, I guess it&#8217;s also about that.&#8221;  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And let&#8217;s remember their names and what they were studying or working on that day because they were our peers and their deaths marked a whole generation of us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Genevi\u00e8ve Bergeron, 21, was a second year scholarship student in civil engineering.<\/li><li>H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Colgan, 23, was in her final year of mechanical engineering and planned to take her Master\u2019s degree.<\/li><li>Nathalie Croteau, 23, was in her final year of mechanical engineering.<\/li><li>Barbara Daigneault, 22, was in her final year of mechanical engineering and held a teaching assistantship.<\/li><li>Anne-Marie Edward, 21, was a first year student in chemical engineering.<\/li><li>Maud Haviernick, 29, was a second year student in engineering materials, a branch of metallurgy, and a graduate in environmental design.<\/li><li>Barbara Maria Klucznik, 31, was a second year nursing student.<\/li><li>Maryse Lagani\u00e8re, 25, worked in the budget department of the Polytechnique.<\/li><li>Maryse Leclair, 23, was a fourth year student in engineering materials.<\/li><li>Anne-Marie Lemay, 27, was a fourth year student in mechanical engineering.<\/li><li>Sonia Pelletier, 28, was to graduate the next day in mechanical engineering.
