{"id":325,"date":"2003-11-25T10:44:44","date_gmt":"2003-11-25T18:44:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chriscorrigan.com\/blogs\/?p=325"},"modified":"2003-11-25T10:44:44","modified_gmt":"2003-11-25T18:44:44","slug":"106978588470384115","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/106978588470384115\/","title":{"rendered":"106978588470384115"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hard on the heels of Thich Naht Hahn&#8217;s advice on mindful consumption comes this poem which appeared today at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poems.com\/onfirmac.htm\">Poetry Daily<\/a>: <\/p>\n<div><strong>On First Looking into Heaney&#8217;s Beowulf<\/strong><br \/>\nAnne MacKay<\/p>\n<p>A bunch of high class thugs<br \/>\nreturns in a golden cloud of<br \/>\nexhaust fumes and dust, helmets<br \/>\npolished bright as maseratis,<br \/>\nspears and chain mail clashing,<br \/>\nenters to a riot of cheers.<\/p>\n<p>The king&#8217;s daughter and<br \/>\ngroupies serve wine,<br \/>\ndripping meat and beer<br \/>\nwhile they boast and yell,<br \/>\nunable to shut up, telling<br \/>\nhow the blood spurted<br \/>\nlike a chain-saw massacre,<br \/>\nhow sword thrusts blasted<br \/>\nguts all over the heath.<\/p>\n<p>Then the big guy shouts how,<br \/>\nat great cost, he hacked the<br \/>\nslavering homo-monster and its<br \/>\ndisgusting mother to pieces,<br \/>\nbrought back the slimy head and<br \/>\ntaloned arm.
