{"id":3085,"date":"2010-12-22T14:19:39","date_gmt":"2010-12-22T22:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/?p=3085"},"modified":"2010-12-22T14:24:10","modified_gmt":"2010-12-22T22:24:10","slug":"society-is-the-still-face","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/society-is-the-still-face\/","title":{"rendered":"Society is the still face"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in November, I worked with my mate Teresa Posakony on a two day gathering the object of which was to work to apply brain science to policy questions on the prevention of adverse childhood experiences.  \u00a0On the first day I facilitated an Open Space event that brought together reserachers and brain scientists to discuss their findings and on the second day, we had panelists and Teresa ran a half day cafe to look at the implications of the research for policy making.  \u00a0I composed a poem at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>As a part of the experience, we were shown a powerful video of the still face experiment, a test to see how infants respond when their care givers break the connection with them.  \u00a0It is very very powerful.  \u00a0Here it is:<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"480\" height=\"385\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/apzXGEbZht0?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Later in the day one of the panelists, Jennifer Rodriguez, referred to this video by saying that collectively, &#8220;society is the still face&#8221; when it comes to our children and youth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.casey.org\/resources\/events\/earlylearning\/wa\/poem.htm\">That was the hook I needed for the poem<\/a>, which was also informed by the words I saw and heard during the cafe.  \u00a0I read the poem and got a generous standing ovation.<\/p>\n<p>Today I got an email from our clients which was sent by the researcher you see in the video, Dr. Ed.
