{"id":2348,"date":"2009-09-29T17:04:30","date_gmt":"2009-09-30T01:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/?p=2348"},"modified":"2010-07-02T09:53:17","modified_gmt":"2010-07-02T17:53:17","slug":"living-the-indigenous-life-is-about-the-questions-we-ask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/living-the-indigenous-life-is-about-the-questions-we-ask\/","title":{"rendered":"Living the indigenous life is about the questions we ask"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My friend Dustin Rivers is locked in a perpetually generative inquiry:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;what are the next steps to become liberated?<\/p>\n<p>The best questions are the ones we ask ourselves, and require us to act differently once we come to an answer. \u00a0 \u201cHow do I contribute to the things I complain about in my community?\u201d\u009d is an example of that. \u00a0 I speak of liberation; the action of becoming free from constrain or oppression or control. \u00a0 Most Settlers will not think of Indigenous peoples in Canada as \u2018needing&#8217; oppression. \u00a0 That&#8217;s mostly due to the discourse on indigenous issues moving away from the root of the cause, into more a \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Colonial_mentality\">colonial mentality<\/a> direction. \u00a0 I seek to look deeply into the root of the problem, and to see the 55\u201d\u00b2000 ft level of awareness of our context as Indigenous people.<\/p>\n<div>If we do live a truly indigenous life, it is in spite of the temptations, the desires, and the allure of colonial model of existence. \u00a0 The truth of the matter is, indigenous way of life is beautiful. \u00a0 It is not savage, it is not backwards, it is not &#8216;stuck in the past&#8217;. \u00a0 It is something we as Indigenous peoples must identify as a great thing, despite the systemic racism society that says our ancestors are inferior to modern day society.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberatedyet.com\/index.php\/community\/decolonization\/still-a-need-to-ask-the-question\">Still A Need To Ask The Question at Liberated Yet?<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My friend Dustin Rivers is locked in a perpetually generative inquiry: &#8230;what are the next steps to become liberated?
