We&#8217;ve just passed through <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Smiths_Falls\">Smiths Falls<\/a>, streaking past paper white birch trees, golden fields, blazing orange maple trees, marsh reeds turned red, scarlet sumac all under a clear blue sky.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m listening to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLS4jAfE9d3aLzyBXLbWbyvCQGSGkBJXM0\">The Great Lakes Suite<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/rheostatics.ca\/band\/\">Rheostatics<\/a>, which features poetry read by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poets\/anne-carson\">Ann Carson<\/a>, who today was awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/prizes\/literature\/2026\/bio-bibliography\/\">Nobel Prize in Literature<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ll meet my brother in Toronto and spend the next week with family in southern Ontario celebrating <a href=\"https:\/\/thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\/article\/thanksgiving-day\">Thanksgiving<\/a> together.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This just might be the most Canadian moment possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crossing Otter Creek near Smiths Falls, Ontario on the VIA 643.
