{"id":21032,"date":"2026-09-14T10:25:33","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T17:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/?p=21032"},"modified":"2026-09-14T10:25:33","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T17:25:33","slug":"good-recent-reads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/good-recent-reads\/","title":{"rendered":"Good recent reads"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some good recent reads which didn&#8217;t make it into full blog posts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/peterlevine.ws\/?p=36238\"><strong>Peter Levine offers a close reading of Wendell Berry&#8217;s poem, September 2<\/strong><\/a>: &#8220;If his leaves are his writings, I do not think they will soon dissolve.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/news\/ng-interactive\/2026\/sep\/08\/this-is-dangerous-slime-moulds-and-the-bitter-debate-over-the-nature-of-intelligence\"><strong>A beautiful Guardian article about slime moulds<\/strong><\/a> and the people who study them: &#8220;So confounding were they that Carl Linnaeus, who spent his life taxonomising life, lumped them into a genus called \u201cchaos\u201d.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;We are fixing up the record&#8221;<\/strong> says Jungurrayi Simms Otto in <a href=\"https:\/\/aeon.co\/videos\/meet-the-aboriginal-australian-artists-painting-over-the-colonial-past\">this short and beautiful documentary<\/a>. He is summarizes the work of a collaboration between the English artist Patrick Waterhouse and a slew of Warlpiri artists as they revise historical records of the British colonial occupation of the Warlpiri homelands .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who doesn&#8217;t like some deeply evidence based takedowns<\/strong> of terrible research or policy? Here&#8217;s a couple from Dougald Lamont. <a href=\"https:\/\/dougaldlamont.substack.com\/p\/text-of-an-email-sent-to-brian-lee\">One on a &#8220;racist and sexist&#8221; report from the MacDonald-Laurier Institute<\/a> on the productivity cost of DEI policies in Canadian universities and another that dismantles <a href=\"https:\/\/dougaldlamont.substack.com\/p\/all-hat-no-cattle-breaking-down-the\">the case for Alberta separatism because, well, its based on fever dreams<\/a>.  That one got <a href=\"https:\/\/dougaldlamont.substack.com\/p\/the-free-alberta-strategy-leaves\">a follow up.<\/a>   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Issues of Aboriginal rights and title are important in British Columbia<\/strong>, and actually have been since 1851. Political mischief has turned these issues of fundamental justice and law into a political football. As Canadian citizens we have to understand the LAW of the situation not just the politics. <a href=\"https:\/\/aaronpete.substack.com\/p\/what-is-dripaand-should-we-repeal\/comments?utm_source=post&#038;utm_medium=web&#038;triedRedirect=true\">Aaron Pete, another voice I dont always agree with, has a good piece on this today. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Through my library I subscribe to The Paris Review<\/strong>, one of the world\u2019s premier literary magazines. The first story in this issue is called Bubble by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.angiesijunlou.com\/publications\">Angie Sijun Lou<\/a> and I highly recommend it. A story of a Spokane high school student who is sent to her father\u2019s home village to China. A beautifully crafter coming of age story for introverts.
