{"id":1199,"date":"2007-06-25T13:53:14","date_gmt":"2007-06-25T21:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/?p=1199"},"modified":"2007-06-25T13:54:57","modified_gmt":"2007-06-25T21:54:57","slug":"1199","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/1199\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowing the dark fate of the world beyond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.changbi.com\/english\/related\/related3_1.asp\">From a paper on Korean poetry<\/a> comes this poem by Ko Un, &#8220;Ode to Shim-chong:&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Indangsu sea, shine dark blue,<br \/>\ncome rising as a cloudlike drumbeat.<br \/>\nThe waters, the sailors who know the waters, may know<br \/>\nthe dark fate of the world beyond<br \/>\nthat lies past the path that sometimes appears,<br \/>\nthe weeping of children born into this world,<br \/>\nand the sailors may know my daughter&#8217;s path.<br \/>\nHow can the waters exist without the world beyond?<br \/>\nFull-bodied fear<br \/>\nhas now become the most yearned-for thing in the world,<br \/>\nand my daughter&#8217;s whimpering stillness in the lotus bud will be such;<br \/>\nmight love be a bright world and my eyes be plunged in utter darkness?<br \/>\nDaughter, already now the waters&#8217; own mother,<br \/>\nadvance over the waters,<br \/>\nadvance over the waters<br \/>\nlike the mists that come dropping over the waters.<br \/>\nMy daughter, advance and travel through every world.<br \/>\nShine dark blue, Indangsu.
