{"id":1075,"date":"2007-01-22T22:54:47","date_gmt":"2007-01-23T06:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/?p=1075"},"modified":"2007-01-22T22:54:47","modified_gmt":"2007-01-23T06:54:47","slug":"victoria-on-a-winters-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chriscorrigan.com\/parkinglot\/victoria-on-a-winters-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Victoria on a winter&#8217;s night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Victoria, BC<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s dry here tonight, on the south end of Vancouver Island, and I sat on the balcony of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coasthotels.com\/hotels\/canada\/bc\/victoria\/coast_victoria\/overview.html\">my hotel room<\/a> looking out over the Inner Harbour, watching a mixed flock of cormorants and common mergansers fish for shiners around the houseboats of Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf.<\/p>\n<p>I really like this city. \u00a0 Tonight I took a walk around <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.ca\/maps?q=victoria+bc+map&#038;ie=UTF8&#038;oe=UTF-8&#038;client=firefox-a&#038;z=15&#038;ll=48.420913,-123.371358&#038;spn=0.013899,0.040169&#038;om=1\">James Bay<\/a>, an old Victorian neighbourhood consisting of tree lined streets and houses of every imaginable shape and size and age huddled up against apartment blocks and the hotels along the harbour walkway. \u00a0 It has been raining, a steady rain in an ever brightening sky, but tonight it is just calm and warm and quiet.<\/p>\n<p>Ate lunch today at the Heron Rock Bistro. \u00a0 Unremarkable crab salad sandwich, made all the more so by the fact that I had ordered a wild salmon sandwhich. \u00a0 And a weak shot of espresso. \u00a0 The best espresso in this town is at Cafe Macchiato on Broad Street. \u00a0 That is the definitive shot of espresso around here. \u00a0 Prove me otherwise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Victoria, BC It&#8217;s dry here tonight, on the south end of Vancouver Island, and I sat on the balcony of my hotel room looking out over the Inner Harbour, watching a mixed flock of cormorants and common mergansers fish for shiners around the houseboats of Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf.
